Eat more of these foods if you want to lower blood sugar and lose weight! Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes can be reversed, and the earlier you change your lifestyle the better.
Eating animal-based foods is the best way to lower blood sugar because they keep blood sugar and insulin low.
However, there are some plant-based foods that are great options, too! Animal foods are high in protein and fat – the two essential macronutrients, and also the two that keep insulin low.
Carbohydrates are the third macronutrient. The three types of carbs include starch, sugar, and fiber.
Fiber won’t raise blood sugar and insulin. Starches and sugars will (even if they are from whole food sources). This is why fruit is not free, and why many people eating plant-based foods still struggle to lower blood sugars and keep weight down.
It’s best to pick plants that are HIGH in fat and fiber to LOWER blood sugars. I like the Carb Manager App to check the macros in different foods. For free trainings on how to start tracking macros, go to www.zivli.com/macros.
Here are some of the best plant-based foods to eat to lower blood sugar:
🥑 Avocado – When they start going bad, cut them in chunks and freeze them for smoothies. This gives a similar creamy texture like bananas but with less sugar.
🌰 Almonds, Walnuts, Pistachios, Macadamia Nuts, Pumpkin seeds
🍓 Blackberries, Raspberries, and Strawberries
🧡 Hemp Hearts – Great to add more protein to pretty much anything
⭐ Chia Seeds – Try chia seed pudding or adding to smoothie
🥣 Edamame – Great as a side, or topped on other roasted veggies
🥦 Non-Starchy Veggies like broccoli, cauliflower greens, bell peppers, cucumber, zucchini, yellow squash, asparagus, artichoke, and spaghetti squash
