Here are the signs that you might be pre-diabetic:
✔️Increased thirst and frequent urination: If you find yourself drinking more water than usual and needing to urinate more frequently, it could be a sign of pre-diabetes. This happens because excess sugar in your blood pulls fluid from the tissues.
✔️Fatigue: Feeling unusually tired or fatigued, even when you’ve had enough rest, can be a symptom of pre-diabetes. The body’s inability to properly use glucose for energy can lead to fatigue and irritability.
✔️Blurred vision: High levels of blood sugar can cause the lens in your eye to swell, which can result in blurred vision. This symptom is often temporary and improves once blood sugar levels are under control.
✔️Slow-healing wounds: Pre-diabetes can affect your body’s ability to heal wounds and infections. High blood sugar levels can damage your blood vessels, reducing blood flow to the affected area and slowing down the healing process.
✔️Unexplained weight loss: While it’s more common in type 1 diabetes, unexplained weight loss can also occur in pre-diabetes. This happens because your body isn’t able to properly use glucose for energy, so it starts burning fat and muscle for fuel.
✔️Tingling or numbness: High blood sugar levels can damage nerves, leading to a tingling or numb sensation, usually in the hands and feet. This condition is known as neuropathy.
✔️Darkened skin: Some people with insulin resistance, a precursor to pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, may develop a condition called acanthosis nigricans. This causes dark, velvety patches of skin, often in the armpits, neck, or groin area.
