Is Diabetes a serious medical condition? Diabetes causes more deaths per year than breast cancer and AIDS combined and having diabetes doubles the risk of having a heart attack, as per American Diabetes Association (ADA). This is not just info, this is also my experience.

Personal connect
I lost my mother to heart attack, she had type 2 diabetes and other conditions. You can learn more about that, my why for creating awareness on this supported by my professional background in the first video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urthoP15u1k
What is Diabetes:
As I went back to see the early mention of Diabetes in history, I found a reference to Ayur Veda texts in1500 BC that flies and ants being attracted to the sweet urine of people suffering from a mysterious disease. Very simply put Diabetes is condition that happens when your blood sugar is too high. There are different types.

Prediabetes: This type is the stage before Type 2 diabetes. Your blood glucose levels are higher than normal but lower than Type 2 diabetes numbers.
Type 2 Diabetes is the predominant Diabetes type in 90% cases.
Key cause is insulin resistance and damaged metabolism.
Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps glucose (sugar) from the food you eat enter your cells to be used as energy. When you have insulin resistance, your cells don’t respond to insulin as effectively as they should.
To compensate for this, your pancreas produces more insulin to help glucose enter your cells. Over time, this can lead to a buildup of glucose in your bloodstream, which can eventually result in type 2 diabetes.
Damaged metabolism as spotted by some of the researchers and clinicians at https://www.twinhealth.com. Metabolism refers to the bodily process of extracting energy from food. Metabolism is a series of of biochemical series fo complex reactions happening in the body in real-time.
Most common symptoms:
Frequent Urination
Fatigue
Hunger even though you are eating
Increased thirst
Blurred vision
Numbness or tingling in feet and hands
Slow healing sores and cuts
Diagnosis:
One of the diagnostic blood tests is checking for HbA1c or simply called A1c. The A1C test measures your average blood glucose for the past two to three months. Sharing ADA guidelines are on this:
If your A1C level is less than 5.7, your sugar levels are in normal range
greater than 5.7 and less than 6.5, your levels have been in the prediabetes range. If you have an A1C level more than or equal to 6.5 , your levels were in the diabetes range.

2. Others at home, via glucometers
This test checks your fasting blood glucose / sugar levels. Fasting means after not having anything to eat or drink (except water) for min. 8 hrs before the test.
3. Random Blood Sugar: Random Glucose Test / Random Sugar Levels
This test is a blood check at any time of the day when you have severe diabetes symptoms. Diabetes is diagnosed at blood glucose greater than equal to 200 mg/dl
Complications:
Once you get diabetes, if not managed well, leads to other conditions such as diabetic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, starts to affect the heart and kidneys, often leading to Chronic Kidney Disease.
It is a silent killer.
The good news is that it can be managed. Most importantly you are in the driver seat to take charge.
Perspective:
One key insight from my experience and seeing other people is to watch your own mindset and behavior.
By watch here I mean observe, witness.
Tip: Meditation. For me meditation has been a game changer in this. My request will be to go through the journey.
Tip: Avoid eating packaged food that stay on shelves for months when freshly good items don’t stay for a few days.
